Description
Cartilaginous, cylindrical, dark brownish thallus fronds dichotomously branched with narrow axils up to 2 mm diameter. and 3 cm long. Acute apices. Attached by a holdfast comprised of branched hyphae.
Habitat
Attaches to rocks in the lower intertidal and shallow subtidal zones or in pools. Often found on sandy or muddy shores attached to fragments of hard substrate. Tolerant of lowered salinities. Commonly found in mixed populations with Chondrus crispus.
